Our Story
The ecovillage Il Giardino della Gioia (engl. The Garden of Joy) was born in March 2011. It was the result of a dream of Radice (today Padma), who sensed the presence of a community spirit, which then also attracted the other people to this beautiful spot amidst ancient olive trees, located in the gorgeous setting of the Gargano in Puglia. The dream consisted in the desire to return to nature, live a shared community life and seek a deeper inner dimension, thereby experimenting a new lifestyle characterized by the unconditional respect for the environment and all beings.

The project was initially formed by Diego, Emanuele and Padma's cousin Loredana. Subsequently, also other people joined, including Antonio, Anna Vittorio, Silvia, Blu, Nuvola, Drago, Regina and many others.
In the first year the synergic gardens were created, in particular thanks to the help and advice of Antonio De Falco.
The main structures were built: kitchen, bathrooms, showers, compost toilets, laundry, circus and yurts for accommodation.
The initial set-up is inspired by the values ​​of the Rainbow family and other examples of ecological, communitarian and spiritual experiences that Radice and Diego had been part of themselves.

In November 2012, a working process called "Crisalide" was initiated, in order to enter the soul of the group, illuminate its dark sides, and put on paper the common principles, objectives and ambitions in an atmosphere of profound meditation and group exchange.

We moved from an exciting and unripe beginning without any well-defined principles or clear direction, to a new start of the project. This time, however, enriched with the obtained knowledge and wisdom, defined common principles and more tools for building and creative activities. In fact, the new group - which currently consists only of a few members - has created an association for volunteering, new contacts, as well as collaborations with various Apulian realities and local bodies. It has also hosted various events and is always open for free expression.

Thanks to the Community Building, we grasped the need to clearly express all our emotions, in order to understand each other as much as possible. Working with Empathic Communication led us to better understand and satisfy everyone's needs and desires in a pleasant and respectful way.
Every year the community reserves some time and space to continue working on this vision.
Other paths - meditation, self-healing techniques, the search for a healthy and conscious diet and the study of permaculture - centrally characterize the project, which is devoted to self-sufficiency and the experimentation of new types of coexistence.

We are open to people interested in promoting and sharing the principles and lifestyle we practice.
